One delicious hot dog recipe, but this is not your usual hotdog. We got grilled sausages, caramalised onions, gherkins, spicy tomato sauce, melted cheese and more.
Put the sausages in a bowl, then add you oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss together until the sausages are well coated.
Pre-heat a griddle pan over high heat for 1-2 minutes, place the sausages in the griddle pan and fry for about 10-15 minutes turning every 1-2 minutes until cooked through.
Pre-heat a pot or pan over medium heat, then add your olive oil. Start frying off your onions, chilli and garlic for about 30 seconds to a minute.
Next, add your tomatoes and cook for a further 2-3 minutes, then add your passata and your water and stir through. Turn the heat up high, then once the mixture starts to boil, turn the heat down low and simmer for a further 5 minutes till you have a thick and chunky tomato sauce. Take the pot off of the heat and finish by seasoning with a pinch of salt, pepper and sugar.
Pre-heat a pot or pan over medium-high heat, add your oil, then add your sliced onions and your sugar. Fry the onions for about 10-15 minutes stirring every minute or 2 until they are browned and caramelised.
Use a serrated knife to open up your hot dog rolls, spread the dijon mustard in the bun, add a sausage, then add some of your caramelised onions, add your gherkins, then your rocket and basil, spoon some of the chili tomato sauce on top and then finish the hot dog with some mozerella cheese.
Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper, and then place in the oven for about 15 minutes until the cheese melts and the bun gets lightly toasted.
Garnish the hot dogs with some extra basil if you want, then serve them.
If you're a vegetarian, use vegetarian sausages.
If you're gluten free, use gluten free buns.
Don't put oil directly on the griddle pan. Put the oil on the sausages first and the grill them.
Use a light oil with a high smoke point.
Use whatever type of sausage you want.
