v So, spiced apples, this to me is the warm, comforting kind of dish that makes you think about Christmas. The reason I made this recipe is that I wanted to make a dish that goes well with the Christmas pork belly recipe I recently posted. Which I will link at the bottom of this post in case you want to check that out.
Now I have a question for you guys and girls. Are you a fan of applesauce with pork? Have you ever tried it? The reason I am asking is that I understand that it is a classic combination, but I never see anyone using it. I personally do not like it, for some reason applesauce kind of reminds me of some form of baby food. Although to be honest, I have never really been a fan of that sweet and savory combination. For example, Turkey with cranberry sauce. Usually, I just prefer to keep the two categories separate. However, I wanted to make a some of my own adjustments to the apple and pork combo.
So instead of making the apples into a sauce I just served them as nice big pieces. Now spiced apples are known to be a dessert recipe which usually involves lots of sugar, so I added just a bit of sugar as I don’t want the sweet flavour of the apples to be overpowering, especially if you do eat it with roast pork or any other roasted meat. Plus, apples have a lot of natural sweetness so I don’t think a lot of sugar is completely necessary. Keep in mind though, you can absolutely serve this dish as a dessert as well if you serve that these spiced apples hot with a nice big dollop of ice-cream on top. You will make your Christmas guests very happy.
Thank you so much for stopping by, I have had a blast making these recipes for you guys. My last Christmas recipe will be individual Christmas champagne jelly trifles, and I am curious to know what you guys will think. Feel free to like, comment and subscribe, and I’ll talk to you all soon.

Christmas Spiced Apples
So, spiced apples, this to me is the warm, comforting kind of dish that makes you think about Christmas day. I hope you all enjoy. Can be served as a dessert or as a side dish with roast meat.
Ingredients
- 10 granny smith apples
- 60g of butter
- 3 teaspoon of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
Instructions
-
Get a large bowl of cold water. Peel, core and quarter the apples and place them in the water to ensure they don't go brown.
-
Get a pot or pan on medium-high heat, then add your butter. Once the butter has melted and is bubbling strain your apples, then add them to the pan. Cook them for about 5-6 minutes stirring about every minute.
-
Once they start to soften a bit add your sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, stir through and cook for another 5-6 minutes. Once the apples are tender and soft all the way through, transfer to a bowl and serve.
Recipe Notes
- These apples are amazing with pork dishes. Or served as a dessert with ice-cream.
